Cushion Wrap, Airlay, & More: Upholstery Essentials

When it comes to creating plush and comfortable cushions, no one wants to sit on a flat, uninviting surface. Whether you're reviving your favorite armchair or working on outdoor cushions, achieving a beautiful, wrinkle-free, and comfortable finish is essential. To achieve this, consider using cushion wrap (also known as Dacron), Airlay Wrap, cotton, and fiber fill—versatile materials that can make a world of difference in your cushion projects.

Cushion Wrap for a Perfect Fit

Cushion wrap, also known as dacron, is an essential material in the upholstery world. This soft, plush material adds volume and smooths out cushions, giving your furniture pieces a luxurious and polished finish. Cushion wrap is a synthetic material made from thermal-bonded polyester fiber batting. At Albright’s Supply, we offer cushion wrap in a 3/4-ounce weight with two width options: 30 inches and 56 inches, making it versatile for a variety of projects.

To use cushion wrap, simply glue a section around your foam and slide the foam into its cover. For a fuller, plumper look, additional layers of cushion wrap can be added. This technique ensures your cushions look sleek and professionally finished.

Airlay Wrap for Outdoor Cushions

When working on outdoor furniture, we recommend using Airlay Wrap. Airlay is made from 100% polyester and offers a denser alternative to traditional cushion wrap, weighing in at 1.8 ounces. It comes in a 24-inch width and is approximately 2 inches thick. Airlay Wrap can be used in the same way as cushion wrap, but it also works well on its own for creating soft cushions or pads.

Cotton Padding: A Traditional Choice

Another padding option is cotton. At Albright’s Supply, we carry synthetic cotton, a man-made alternative that offers consistency and reliability. Synthetic cotton is typically a bright white and free from the natural debris, such as twigs, leaves, and seeds, often found in natural cotton. While both synthetic and natural cotton are more delicate than dacron, synthetic cotton is less fragile and easier to work with than natural cotton, making it a dependable choice for your projects.

Puff Poly: The Perfect Pillow Filler

For projects requiring loose stuffing, our Puff Poly, or fiber fill, is the ideal solution. This soft, pliable material is perfect for filling pillows or reaching into smaller spaces within cushions. Puff Poly provides a comfortable and inviting finish, making it an excellent option for creating soft and cozy furniture pieces.
